Further success for SV

Before we get to breaking down and picking the clash between Seneca Valley and Pine-Richland this week in the WPIAL 6A championship game, please allow me to crow a little bit.

I did it.

Finally, after all these years of prognostication purgatory, I have reached 100 wins.

I’m 102-13 to be exact and even I can’t believe I was able to post that kind of record.

That’s 13 losses in 12 weeks, a smidge over one defeat per week for the Ol’ Scoopster.

OK. Now that that’s out of the way, we can move on to the really important stuff.

“The Raiders Revenge Tour.”

Seneca Valley has already beaten two of the teams that beat it during the regular season: Central Catholic and North Allegheny. A third is up next in Pine-Richland.

That would be quite the trifecta should the Raiders pull it off.

But will they?

Here’s a closer look:

Why Seneca Valley will win

These aren’t the Raiders who lost to the Rams before.

Seneca Valley has steadily improved this season and is playing the best football of 2018 right now.

Jake Mineweaser has made a huge difference in the running game and the Raiders’ offensive line is mauling people.

The defense, stout all season, has been every bit as good as advertised.

And Seneca Valley is certainly not intimidated. The Raiders weren’t against Central Catholic and they definitely weren’t last week at North Allegheny.

Seneca Valley is one scary team right now.

Why Pine-Richland will win

They are Pine-Richland.

The Rams have been there, done that. They are the defending state champions and they have a wealth of experience in games with stakes this high. They always seem to find a way to win these kind of games.

Also, they have a well-balanced offense led by sophomore quarterback Cole Spencer and junior running back Luke Meckler.

That balance also applies to the receiving corps. Pine-Richland has five receivers with at least nine catches this year.

That’s a difficult recipe for many teams to contend with.

But who will ultimately win this game, that promises to be very competitive and very entertaining.

Well, glad you asked.

If this game would have been played a month ago (which it was), I would have picked Pine-Richland to win (which it did).

But this game is being played now and a lot has changed in Raiderland since that 21-7 setback to the Rams.

Seneca Valley has found its mojo.

And that mojo will carry the Raiders, who will eke this one out by the narrowest of margins ... Seneca Valley 21, Pine-Richland 20.

Scoop has his eyes on win No. 103.
