38,000 still without power; Warming stations set up in county

YMCA offering free showers

More than 38,000 customers served by West Penn Power and Central Electric Cooperative are without electricity as of 7:45 a.m.

Due to the numerous power outages, warming stations have been set up in the county, according to Robert McLafferty, the county's 911 coordinator.

Six warming centers have been set up throughout the county to accommodate those without power as a result of Winter Storm Avery.

Amy Marree, the Butler County Emergency Services' emergency management planner, said on Friday morning that warming centers are open at Cranberry Township Municipal Building and the following fire stations:

Any warming stations that are listed as closed will remain open until further notice.

Marree said she is working with the Red Cross to set up shelters if that need becomes necessary.

Marree is asking residents to check on any elderly or special needs neighbors.

The Butler YMCA is also offering free showers to county residents who are still without power. No membership to the YMCA is needed.

Warming stations at Cranberry Fire Station, Cranberry EMS, and South Butler are both closed as of 5 p.m.The warming station at Forward Township Municipal building has closed as of 3:50 p.m.
