More than 38,000 customers served by West Penn Power and Central Electric Cooperative are without electricity as of 7:45 a.m.

Due to the numerous power outages, warming stations have been set up in the county, according to Robert McLafferty, the county's 911 coordinator.

Six warming centers have been set up throughout the county to accommodate those without power as a result of Winter Storm Avery.

Amy Marree, the Butler County Emergency Services' emergency management planner, said on Friday morning that warming centers are open at Cranberry Township Municipal Building and the following fire stations:

  • • Butler Fire Department on South Washington Street
  • • Adams Township on Route 228
  • • Bruin on Firehouse Drive
  • • Herman on Herman Road
  • • Middlesex Township on Browns Hill Road
  • • Connoquenessing Borough on Main Street
  • • Butler Township station 3 on Sparks Avenue in Meridian
  • • Eau Claire on North Washington St
  • • Saxonburg on Horne Avenue
  • Cranberry Fire Station on Haine School Road (CLOSING AT 5 P.M.)
  • Cranberry EMS Station on Route 19 (CLOSING AT 5 P.M.)
  • South Butler Fire Hall on Old Plank Road (CLOSING AT 5 P.M.)
  • • Petrolia on Argyle Street
  • • Chicora on West Slippery Rock Street
  • • North Washington Social Hall on Oneida Valley Road (CLOSING AT 9 P.M.)
  • • Slippery Rock Bingo Hall on Elm Street

Any warming stations that are listed as closed will remain open until further notice.

Marree said she is working with the Red Cross to set up shelters if that need becomes necessary.

Marree is asking residents to check on any elderly or special needs neighbors.

The Butler YMCA is also offering free showers to county residents who are still without power. No membership to the YMCA is needed.

Check back for updates.
