S. Butler board eliminates late-meeting questioning

Earlier questions will be allowed

JEFFERSON TWP — Residents will no longer be given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of South Butler School District board meetings about topics the board members voted on.

The school board on Wednesday night voted to eliminate the question session at the meeting's end because it was meant to allow residents to ask simple questions about items the board voted on and not a debate, said board President Matt Cimbala.

Board member George Zacherl was the lone board member who voted against the measure.

“It also aligns better with what the (Pennsylvania School Boards Association) recommends,” Cimbala said.

Cimbala said those with questions about items voted upon can call school administrators to get their answers.

The public comment session at the beginning of the meeting will remain, as required by state school code.

Although they voted to eliminate the question session, the board allowed it for one final time on Wednesday night.
