Moniteau gets $25K state grant to boost security

The Moniteau School District was awarded state grant money with a focus on security, according to school officials at Monday's school board meeting.

Moniteau Superintendent Sean Arney said the district will receive $25,000 from the School Safety and Security Grant Program.

Arney said Moniteau will use the funds to buy additional security cameras and metal detectors to continue with the security plan it formulated earlier this year.

“This wasn't available when we began developing our plan,” Arney said.

He said the new equipment will allow the school system to continue forward with its plan with an emphasis on Dassa McKinney Elementary.

“We had a plan that we started with at the high school,” Arney said.

Arney said he isn't sure when exactly the funds will be available, but it could be as early as December.

The grant program was created by lawmakers earlier this year to provide schools with additional funds for a wide variety of projects to improve school safety, according to the website of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The PCCD's School Safety and Security Committee manages the grant program, which this year helped deliver $52.5 million in grants statewide.
