Violent behavior

How many more tragic horrific massacres must happen before we demand a serious government sponsored study be conducted to determine the relationship between mental illness and violence behavior especially behavior with the intent to kill?

In the military withholding weapons from soldiers suspected of having mental issues was a routine military act. Once the weapons were removed the soldier was either discharged or taken “involuntary” to a medical facility in an attempt to resolve the mental issues that plagued them. Under advisement of a military psychiatrist the soldier may be discharged under the category of “other designated physical and mental conditions” (ODPMC).

The time has come to demand that our legislators put this ominous issue at the top of their priority list. The enigma of unprovoked gun massacres by the mentally ill is an urgent problem that deserves our full attention. Shouldn’t we be smart enough to create fair gun laws that preserves our Constitutional right to own a gun but still allows temporarily withholding of weaponry from mentally ill patients designated as potentially violent?
