Slippery Rock bows out with 3-1 playoff loss

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first half, Slippery Rock's girls soccer team allowed three unanswered goals in a 3-1 loss to Harbor Creek in the first round of the District 10 Class AA playoffs on Saturday.

The Rockets (16-2) took the lead on a successful penalty kick from Kayla Daugherty at the 36:17 mark of the first half. The Huskies had been whistled for a foul in the goal box thanks to pressure provided by Amanda Lewis.

Lewis was taken down in the box on a breakaway, creating the foul.

Harbor Creek tied the game with 27:02 left in the half, scoring on a free kick. The Huskies then scored twice in the second half following a pair of corner kicks.

The go-ahead tally came on an own goal off a corner kick with 22:12 left in the game. Harbor Creek headed in the corner kick with 15:08 left for a 3-1 lead.

Julia Hart made three finger-tip saves in goal for Slippery Rock to keep the game close. It was a physical contest that included three yellow cards — two on Harbor Creek, one on the Rockets.

Harbor Creek had nine shots on goal and six corner kicks to Slippery Rock's six shots on goal and two corner kicks.

The Huskies accounted for both Slippery Rock losses this season. They defeated the Rockets, 1-0, Sept. 6.
