Woman shot after pointing shotgun at troopers identified

State police have identified the woman shot in a trooper-involved shooting at an apartment complex in northern Butler County.

Brittany Ann Kitner, 36, was shot at least once in the "hip area," according to police. The shooting happened just before 4 a.m. at the Stoneworth Apartments on New Castle Road in Worth Township. Kitner lives at the apartment complex.

Police said she pointed a shotgun at two troopers who responded to a call for a welfare check of Kitner. One of the troopers fired a service pistol at her. She did not fire the shotgun.

The troopers applied first aid on the woman until a Slippery Rock EMS crew arrived and took over. Kitner was "responsive," according to rescuers.

She was taken to Grove City Medical Center and later transferred to St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown, Ohio. The hospital did not immediately provide a condition report.

The shooting remains under investigation by police and the Butler County District Attorney's office.
