Woman shot after pointing gun at state troopers

A woman who pointed a shotgun at Butler troopers overnight was shot once and taken to a regional hospital, according to a state police source.

The incident took place just before 4 a.m. Sunday at an apartment at 877 New Castle Road, Worth Township, Butler County, during a welfare check.

“Preliminarily, the investigation indicates one trooper fired his issued pistol striking the female at least once,” according to the source.

Troopers applied first aid on the woman until EMS workers arrived. The woman was then taken to Grove City Hospital and later transferred to St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Troop D Major Case Team, the Butler County District Attorney's Office and the PSP Internal Affairs Division are investigating the shooting.
