Winning Effort

Butler Township officials presented awards Monday to student winners in the annual Fire Prevention Week poster contest. The winners are, from left, Harper Gerlesky-Danahey, a kindergarten student at Connoquenessing Elementary School; Faith Melnick, a first grader at Connoquenessing; Casey Ewart, a third grader at Connoquenessing and Aaliyah Grossbauer, a fourth grader at McQuistion Elementary School. In the back row are township Commissioner James Lokhaiser, left, and Fire Marshal Christopher Switala. Missing from the photo is Greyson Steadman, a second grader at Northwest Elementary School. The contest was open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade at McQuistion, Northwest and Connoquenessing elementary schools. All the posters were displayed in the municipal building the week Oct. 7-13 for Fire Prevention Week.
