Knoch tennis moves on

Knights in WPIAL semifinal round; 2 golfers reach PIAA tourney

Laura Greb, Brooke Bauer and Emma West dominated in singles play as the Knoch girls tennis team advanced to the WPIAL team semifinals with a 5-0 sweep of Quaker Valley Tuesday afternoon.

Greb won 6-0, 6-1 while Bauer blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

West also rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Knoch will take on Beaver in the semifinals Wednesday at Seneca Valley.

Girls Soccer

Ellie Reiser scored the only goal of the match as Slippery Rock beat Sharon 1-0.

Julia Hart earned her 10th shutout of the season in goal for Slippery Rock, the region champs.

Freeport 8, Armstrong 0 — Sidney Shemanski scored two goals to lead the Yellowjackets' rout.

Ariana Clark, Abby Bastaja, Emma Check, Autumn Kriebel, Kaylin Greiser and Hannah Slaughenhoupt also scored for Freeport.

Karns City 12, Punxsutawney 0 — Hunter Dittman, Brooke Stahlman and Kailyn Behrens each scored two goals for the Gremlins.

Alexis Moore, Rossi McMillen, Breanna Tomsey, Olivia Coyle, Cambree Powers and McKenna Lavella also scored for Karns City.

Boys Soccer

Mars capped a strong regular season with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Ambridge.

Austin Rocke scored twice and Shane Lisman once for the Planets (16-1-1).

Greensburg Central Catholic 5, Freeport 4 — Hunter Hardin, Braden Change, Stevie Teorsky and Cole Bennick each scored for the Yellowjackets, who fell in this wild non-section match.

Girls Volleyball

Maria Lucas dropped 13 kills and added 14 digs in Butler's sweep of host Fox Chapel.

The Golden Tornado won by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 26-24.

Sophia Sacriponte added nine kills and Julia Gibson eight kills for playoff-bound Butler (10-5, 6-5).

Karns City 3, Moniteau 1 — The Gremlins erased the Warriors by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-19.

Alyssa Stitt paced KC with 24 assists, six aces and four blocks.

Emily Huff added 11 kills and five digs, Emma Clark nine kills and Mackenzie Dunn 20 digs.

Emily Wolfe and Kaley Byerly both chipped in 17 digs.

For Moniteau, Logan Barnhart tallied four blocks and Madison Bresnehan a pair of kills.

Freeport 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 — The visiting Vikings proved no match for the powerful Yellowjackets, who cruised to a 25-3, 25-3, 25-5 victory.

In her first game back from injury, Haley Graham had 10 kills. Lauren Lampus also had 10 kills and Ally DeJidas contributed seven kills.

Freeport improved to 12-2 and 11-0 in section play.

Knoch 3, Lincoln Park 0 — Kennedy Christy had 18 kills as the Knights rolled to a 25-6, 25-8, 25-7 win.

Hannah Rowe pitched in nine kills and Ally Albert added 18 service points for Knoch (17-0, 13-0).

A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — Olivia Boocks had 11 kills and 11 digs and Emily Wetzel added 19 service points, seven aces, 15 digs and 25 assists as the Falcons won 25-11, 25-14, 25-13.

Dominika Logue paced the Damsels with seven kills.

Kylee Eaton pitched in seven aces, 12 digs, three blocks and 11 kills for A-C Valley (12-2).

On Monday, Bryn Davis had 13 kills and Morgan Cumberland had 23 assists, 22 service points and four aces as the Damsels won a marathon 25-15, 16-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-11 match over Mercer.

Vanessa Reddick pitched in six kills, 10 points and four aces for Union.

Golf

North Catholic is sending two golfers to the PIAA Class AA Championship round.

On the boys side, senior Tre Bartony carded a 3-over-par 75 in the Western Regional Monday at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

The effort put Bartony in a 3-way tie for fifth place. Alec Hite of North East had the day's best score with a 73.

In girls play, North Catholic's Madie Smithco, the defending state champion, fired an 8-over-par 80 and placed sixth.

North East's Lydia Swan and Central Valley's Kiaria Porter paced the field with 75s.

The PIAA tournament, a 36-hole event over two days, begins Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
