Woman gets prison time for May burglary in city

Tiffany Crawford

A Butler woman was sentenced last week to state prison after pleading guilty to one felony count of burglary in connection with a break-in on South Washington Street in May.

On Oct. 12, Tiffany A. Crawford, 33, was sentenced 2½ to 5 years of incarceration followed by one year of probation and ordered to complete 50 hours of community service. For being in Butler County Prison since her arrest in May, Judge Timothy McCune gave her credit for five months of time served.

Police arrested Crawford on May 8 for breaking into a home on the 500 block of South Washington Street the day before and, with the help of two partners, robbing a group of people inside.

The three robbers, one of whom remains unidentified, tackled one of the victims when he opened the door to the residence, according to court documents. Crawford pointed a handgun with a red laser sight at the man, according to police reports.

Another victim recalled that he was in his bedroom watching television when he heard what sounded like a scuffle outside his door. While walking out of the bedroom, documents said, he was met by a woman with a gun. He told police that she went through his pockets, taking a cell phone and $71 in currency.

The third victim told police she was in the bathroom when the break-in occurred, and was confronted by a man who asked for her cell phone.

In May police arrested and charged Crawford and Barry J. Murray, 22, of Butler, with burglary, robbery, trespass and conspiracy in the case. Murray is currently awaiting further court proceedings.
