Butler boys get playoff berth with 1-1 draw

Blose nets goal for Tornado soccer at NA

Adam Blose scored on a header in the 29th minute of play, accounting for Butler's lone goal in a 1-1 tie in boys soccer play at North Allegheny Monday night.

The result clinches a WPIAL playoff berth for both the Golden Tornado and Tigers. Had either team won, the loser would have been eliminated from postseason play.

Blose's goal gave the Tornado a 1-0 lead, but North Allegheny (10-5-1, 8-5-1) tied it less than five minutes later on a goal from Nick Bridges.

Goalkeeper Austin Goepfert preserved the tie for Butler (10-4-2, 8-4-2).

West Shamokin 4, Karns City 3 — West Shamokin came from behind three times, finally winning in overtime to hand the Gremlins their first loss of the season.

Owen Collwell, Brayden Christie and Austin Fahlor scored for KC.

Slippery Rock 9, Oil City 1 — Ryan Davey tallied three goals as the Rockets crushed the host Oilers.

The win wrapped up an undefeated region slate for Slippery Rock (12-3-1, 9-0-1).

Also scoring for the Rockets were Tyler Christy, Jack Allen, Cabot Fowler, Kaleb Kuhn, Nathaniel Willison and James Gallagher.

Girls Volleyball

Butler had little trouble against visiting Ellwood City on the Golden Tornado's Senior Night, sweeping the Wolverines by scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-12.

All seven seniors contributed to the victory. They include Tabitha Walker, Sophia Sacriponte, Julia Gibson, Maria Lucas, Hope Fiorina, Faith Hansotte and Heidi Gross.

Butler improved to 9-5 overall.

Slippery Rock 3, Sharpsville 0 — Morgan Malinski tallied 22 assists, six kills and 13 digs for Slippery Rock.

The Rockets improved to 5-8 with the 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 victory.

Lexis Prementine contributed eight kills and eight digs, Taylor Balint 15 digs, Tiffany Madison six kills and four blocks.

Knoch 3, Plum 0 — The Knights improved to 16-0 with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 win on the road.

Hannah Rowe had 10 kills and 12 digs for the Knights. Skylar Burkett added eight kills and Kenzie Kerkan 12 service points.

Girls Soccer

Lindsie Galbreath scored Knoch's lone goal in a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Indiana. The tally gives Galbreath 82 goals in her varsity career as the Knights closed their season Monday night.

Maddi Boyer assisted on the goal. Jewel Robertson had four saves in goal for Knoch.
