Romanchak, Selinger lead 'Jackets

Duo scores 6 TDs for Freeport; North Catholic, U/ACV also win in routs

BUFFALO TWP — Austin Romanchak rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns and also returned a kickoff for a score as the Freeport football team rolled to a 48-3 win over Burrell Friday night.

The Yellowjackets (4-3) overcame a sluggish first half to score 34 points in the final two quarters, keyed by Romanchak and tailback Conor Selinger.

Romanchak scored both touchdowns in the first half on an 11-yard run and a 29-yard scamper.

In the second half, it was all Yellowjackets.

After Burrell cut the Freeport lead to 14-3 early in the third quarter, Romanchak returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown to kickstart the Yellowjackets.

Romanchak added a 2-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play for a 27-3 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Selinger then took over.

He scored on runs of 33 and 3 to give Freeport a 41-3 lead in the fourth.

Selinger finished with 151 yards on 23 carries.

The Yellowjackets held Burrell to just 99 yards.

Ricky Hunter capped the scoring with a 57-yard touchdown scamper.

North Catholic 70, Uniontown 0 — North Catholic scored early and scored often.

The Trojans rolled up 35 points in the first quarter and 56 points by the half in a dismantling of Uniontown.

North Catholic quarterback Zack Roccer completed just three passes, but two went for scores.

Nick Maher hauled in a 32-yard strike and Tyree Brown had a 25-yard TD reception in the first quarter.

Seven North Catholic players scored a touchdown for the Trojans.

Joey Prentice led the way with 138 yards and two scores.

Anthony Serventi also had a pair of touchdown runs and Maher also added a TD run.

Rashod Allen scored on a 50-yard run to get the scoring started for the Trojans (7-1).

Carson Laconi capped the scoring with a 13-yard run for North Catholic, which led 70-0 after three quarters.

Rocco was 3-of-4 passing for 112 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a 1-yard scoring run in the first quarter.

Ridgway 28, Karns City 6 — Ridgway quarterback Paul Gresco threw for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Elkers remained undefeated.

His first scoring pass went to Austin Green from nine yards out in the second period. The second was a 25-yard aerial to Daunte Allegretto in the final period.

Karns City's lone score — Devin Ryan's eight-yard run — cut Ridgway's lead to 13-6 late in the second quarter.

KC quarterback Anthony Kamenski threw for 54 yards and three interceptions. He paced the team's ground game with 54 yards on 11 carries.

Hunter Jones added 44 yards on 10 attempts for the Gremlins (3-5).

Union/A-C Valley 62, Cameron County 0 — Luke Bowser threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns and the Falcon Knight defense forced five turnovers in this rout.

Bowser threw touchdown passes to Tanner Merwin and Colton Hoffman.

Merwin had three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Bowser also had 71 yards rushing and a score for Union/A-C Valley (4-4).

Quintin Weaver, Jonathan Powell, Caden Rainey, Eli Penny and Gaven Bowser also scored rushing touchdowns for the Falcon Knights.

Nolan Cumberland had two interceptions and Karter Vogle also had a pick. Penny and Jerry Fair each recovered a fumble for Union/A-C Valley.

Valley 22, Summit Academy 20 — Valley scored on a 17-yard pass from Tyler Green to Noah Hutcherson with a little more than seven minutes remaining to down the Knights.

Summit Academy (0-8) led 20-14 after Donte Gibson hit Remere Williams for a 3-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.

Summit Academy grabbed its first lead of the season with a fumble recovery in the end zone.

After Valley took a 14-6 lead, Troy Monroe galloped 69 yards and Tyshaun Harvey scored the 2-point conversion to tied the game 14-14 at the half.
