SV boys golf finishes 4th

McNulty fires a 75 at WPIAL championship

Seneca Valley's boys golf team placed fourth out of six teams at the WPIAL Class AAA championship, held Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course.

Mark McNulty led the Raiders' effort with a 75, Todd Hangliter carded a 77 and Zach Brown came in with a 79.

Rounding out the field for SV were Jacob Marquardt (80) and Ryan Bartos (85).

Central Catholic won the district title by shooting a course-record 372.

In Class AA, North Catholic placed third after totaling 426 strokes. Tre Bartony fired a 72 and Madie Smithco a 74.

Smithco used a 9-iron to ace the 150-yard No. 2 hole.

Brendan Thiele added a 90, Andrew Parker a 94 and Brendan Haggerty a 95 for the Trojans.

Sewickley Academy used a 409 to claim the championship.

Boys Soccer

James Gallagher scored a pair of goals as Slippery Rock clinched the Region 5 title.

Duncan McCoy got the shutout in goal for the Rockets (11-3-1, 8-0-1) with seven saves.

Karns City 1, DuBois Central Catholic 0 — Dakota King scored the lone goal as the Gremlin remained undefeated.

Jake Weckerly stopped six shots in goal for his sixth shutout of the year for Karns City (15-0).

Girls Volleyball

Isabella Russo tallied nine kills and four blocks to help Freeport clinch its 14th straight section title with a 3-0 win over Burrell.

Lauren Lampus had nine kills and four aces and Ally DeJidas six kills and three blocks.

Erica Lampus chipped in 18 service points and three aces for the Yellowjackets (12-2, 11-0), who won by scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 26-24.

Butler 3, Hempfield 1 — Maria Lucas had 11 kills and 16 digs and Hope Fiorina had 31 digs as the Golden Tornado won 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-13.

Heidi Gross had nine kills and Julia Gibson added six kills and two blocks for Butler (7-5, 6-5).

Knoch 3, Ambridge 0 — Skylar Burkett dropped 13 kills in a 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 win for the Knights.

Hannah Rowe totaled 10 kills, Kennedy Christy nine kills and Kenzie Kerkan 14 service points and 19 digs for Knoch (15-0, 12-0).

A-C Valley 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Olivia Boocks had seven kills and six aces as the Falcons rolled 25-5, 25-5, 25-9.

Kylee Eaton pitched in five aces and four kills and Andrea Meals added 10 digs.

Kaylie Merwin also had nine assists for A-C Valley (11-2).

Clarion-Limestone 3, Moniteau 1 — Samantha Broerman had four kills and Abby Regal three kills, but the Warriors lost 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18.

Clarion 3, Union 0 — Dominika Logue had four kills and Bryn Yoder three kills as the Damsels fell 25-13, 25-12, 25-7.

Union dropped a 3-2 decision to DuBois Central Catholic late Wednesday night. Morgan Cumberland had 23 assists and Logue 13 kills for Union.

Girls Soccer

Carlie Giori and Sidney Shemanski each scored a pair of goals as Freeport rolled past Greensburg Salem, 6-1.

Emma Check and Abby Bastaja also scored for Freeport, who got five saves in goal from Maddie Wagner.

Butler 2, North Allegheny 2 — Gabby Boden and Chloe Weiland each scored goals for the Golden Tornado from this match Wednesday night.

Weiland's score tied the match at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
