Golf teams in finals

Seneca Valley, North Catholic advance from WPIAL semis

Jacob Marquardt's 77 led Seneca Valley's boys golf team to a third-place finish Tuesday at the WPIAL Class AAA team golf semifinal held at Buffalo Golf Course.

The Raiders finished with 405 strokes in the eight-team event, behind Fox Chapel (369) and Shady Side Academy (394).

All three teams advance to the championship round, scheduled Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course.

Also scoring for SV were Mark McNulty (80), Todd Hangliter (80), Zach Brown (81) and Jimmy Stoltenberg (87).

In a Class AA semifinal at Butler's Golf Course near Elizabeth, North Catholic's quintet placed second with 415 strokes to move on.

Tre Bartony led the way with a 71, followed by Madie Smithco (81), Brendan Haggerty (83), Brendan Thiele (86) and Andrew Parker (94).

Sewickley Academy had the top score with a 390. Carmichaels earned the final transfer spot by placing third (416).

Boys Soccer

Austin Rocke, Dane Beller and Ryan Kaniuff each scored goals as Mars downed Hampton 3-0.

Nate Paras got the shutout in goal for the Planets (13-1-1, 13-0).

Indiana 2, Knoch 1 — Nick Dellarosa scored the lone goal for the Knights (6-8-2, 5-7-1).

Slippery Rock 5, Franklin 1 — James Gallagher scored a pair of goals as the Rockets kept rolling.

Cabot Fowler, Ryan Davey and Ryan Hinchberger also scored goals for Slippery Rock (10-3-1, 7-0-1).

Girls Volleyball

Freeport treated its fans to another dominating victory on “Throwback Night.”

The Yellowjackets, whose uniforms dated from the 1980s, disposed of East Allegheny in a sweep by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-8.

Ally DeJidas posted 11 service points and six kills. Lauren Lampus added 12 points, four aces and six kills.

Mackensie Jack served up 18 points and Sarah Hettich had six kills and three blocks for the 'Jackets (11-1, 10-0).

The game was played in Freeport's old high school gym, adding to the throwback atmosphere.

Karns City 3, Redbank Valley 0 — Mackenzie Dunn had 16 digs as the Gremlins rolled to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-9 win.

Kaley Byerly added 12 digs and Emma Clark three kills for Karns City.

A-C Valley 3, Keystone 0 — The Falcons made quick work of the visiting Panthers by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-13.

Olivia Boocks' strong match included 13 kills, 13 digs and four aces. Emily Wetzel added 20 assists and Kylee Eaton 12 kills.

Andrea Meals contributed seven digs and four kills and Meah Ielase four kills for A-C Valley (10-2).

The Falcons' junior varsity team also won, 2-0.

Knoch 3, Mars 0 — The Knights (13-0, 11-0) won the match 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 as Kerrie Fitzpatrick had 15 service points and 25 assists.

Skylar Burkett contributed 10 kills and 14 digs.

Knoch hosts Freeport Wednesday night.

Cross Country

Slippery Rock's Christian Sosa placed first with a time of 18 minutes, 15 seconds, as the Rocket boys crushed host Sharon, 15-50.

The Rocket girls won by the same score, with Harley Pflugh pacing Slippery Rock with a second-place time of 21:20.

Slippery Rock's boys move to 3-4 while the girls are now 5-2.

Eli Evans was the top Karns City boys finisher and Willow Mortimer the top Gremlin girls finisher as the Karns City boys lost 15-50 to Cranberry and the girls fell 15-48 to the Berries.

Hannah Burgoon won the girls race for Moniteau with a time of 23:03, but the Warriors fell to North Clarion 20-40.

Dakota Funfer placed fourth for the Moniteau boys in a 19-37 loss.

Jackson Blucher scored the game's only goal as Seneca Valley shut out Cathedral Prep, 1-0, Monday night. Drew Dimond assisted on the tally.

Aiden Campbell got the shutout in goal for the Raiders.
