Volleyball powers cruise to wins

Freeport, Knoch on track to complete big seasons

Freeport's volleyball team kept rolling Tuesday with a sweep of visiting Derry.

The Yellowjackets (8-1, 7-0) downed the Trojans by scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-11.

Ally DeJidas led the way with nine kills, 13 service points and four blocks.

Sarah Hettich chipped in seven kills and six blocks, Lauren Lampus eight kills and Mackensie Jack five kills.

Knoch 3, Hampton 0 — Kennedy Christy had 12 kills and 11 service points as the Knights won their 35th consecutive match with a 25-14, 27-25, 25-11 win.

Hannah Rowe added 10 kills for the Knights (11-0, 9-0).

A-C Valley 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Olivia Boocks had 10 kills and 10 digs and Kylee Eaton added seven kills and 11 service points as the Falcons (8-2) rolled 25-10, 25-13, 25-22.

Keystone 3, Moniteau 1 — Carolyn Kelly had six service aces, eight blocks and three kills, but the Warriors fell 25-20, 25-16, 14-25, 25-16.

Abby Regal added five kills and Samantha Broerman four kills and three blocks for Moniteau.

Hickory 3, Slippery Rock 1 — Annika Peale had eight kills and six blocks and Taylor Balint added 26 digs, but the Rockets fell 13-25, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25 to the Hornets.

Lexis Prementine pitched in six kills and 18 digs and Morgan Malinski 17 assists and 11 digs for Slippery Rock (4-6).

Redbank Valley 3, Union 0 — Bryn Davis had six kills for the Damsels in a 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 loss.

Marli Hawk had 28 digs for Union.

Cross Country

Sammi Jo Barnes won the girls race with a time of 20 minutes, 20 seconds as Knoch beat Freeport (20-37), Shady Side Academy (25-30) and Southmoreland (18-41), but fell to Riverview (25-33).

The Knoch boys also beat Freeport (28-29), Shady Side Academy (22-39) and Southmoreland (15-50), but lost to Riverview (21-34).

Braden Zukowski finished third for the Knights.

Freeport's Joshua McCoy placed fifth for the Yellowjackets.

Hockey

Marshall Maier and Tyler Kovac scored in regulation for Seneca Valley, which opened its season with a 3-2 overtime shootout victory over Butler late Monday night.

Cody Reep and Jerome Oliver scored for the Golden Tornado.

Connor Strobel stopped 23 of 25 shots on goal for Butler while Aidan Campbell stopped 25 of 27 shots for Seneca Valley.

Boys Golf

Butler's Brayden Setnar and Mars' Chris Sicher both competed at the WPIAL Class 3A Championships at Oakmont Country Club.

Setnar fired an 86 while Sicher carded a 92. Both golfers failed to place in the top 14, which would have advanced them to the Western Regional later this month.

Central Catholic senior Jimmy Meyers currently holds the lead after shooting an even-par 71, but several golfers have yet to finish due to play being halted because of darkness. Several weather delays slowed play on Tuesday.

Private Schools

Sam Hoffer and Christian Cater scored a goal each as Portersville Christian School's soccer team defeated Redeemer Lutheran, 4-2.

Audrey Shandick had two assists for PCS (14-1).
