Knoch girls tennis claims section crown

Knoch's girls tennis team is section champion — again.

The Knights (13-0, 9-0) clinched their third consecutive section crown with a 5-0 win over Highlands on Monday.

Singles players Laura Greb, Brooke Bauer and Emma West cruised to victory, none losing more than one game.

Knoch travels to Hampton for a non-section match Tuesday.

Mars 4, Pine-Richland 1 — Amelia Haley, Emily Ivory and Isabella Gaydosh each won in singles play as the playoff-bound Planets finished 6-2 in section play.

Girls Soccer

Mars improved to 9-0 with a convincing 5-1 victory at Knoch.

Ellie Coffield scored twice for the Planets. Taylor Hamlett, Caroline Wroblewski and Gracie Dunaway each scored once.

Lindsie Galbreath scored the lone goal for Knoch, assisted by Heather Wittmer. Lauren Galbreath made seven saves in goal.

Freeport 4, Highlands 0 — Emma Check scored a pair of goals and the Yellowjackets' defense didn't surrender a shot on goal in this section, shutout win.

Carlie Giori and Sidney Shemanski also scored for Freeport.

Natalie Doerr, Shemanski, Abby Bastaja and Kaitlun Ritter each had an assist.

Karns City 4, Keystone 0 — Brooke Stahlman scored two goals and added two assists for the Gremlins (8-1).

Olivia Rumbaugh and Hunter Dittman both added a goal.

Boys Soccer

Hunter Hardin scored five goals as Freeport routed Valley, 9-2.

Stevie Teorsky, Braden Change, Danny Lynch and Cole Bennick also found the net for the Yellowjackets.

Karns City 6, Armstrong 2 — The Gremlins received a pair of goals from Nate Rondinelli and Dakota King.

Kaden Scherer and Austin Fahlor added one goal apiece for KC (13-0).

Slippery Rock 8, Meadville 0 — The host Rockets dominated the Bulldogs, with five different players scoring at least one goal.

Ryan Davey led the charge by finding the net four times. Tyler Christy, Ryan Hinchberger, James Gallagher and Kurtis Baxa all scored one goal.

Duncan McCoy and Colton Callen combined for three saves in the shut-out victory.

Girls Volleyball

Olivia Boocks had nine points, two aces, 13 digs and 22 kills, but A-C Valley (7-2) dropped a 3-2 decision to Redbank Valley.

Scores of the match were 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 17-25, 11-15.

Kylee Eaton had 19 digs and 16 kills for the Facons while Andrea Meals had 13 digs and six kills, Emily Wetzel 25 assists, Hannah Farrington 15 points and Meah Ielase eight kills.

A-C Valley hosts Clarion-Limestone Tuesday.

Clarion-Limestone 3, Union 2 — Bryn Davis had 10 kills, 13 service points and four ace, but the Damsels couldn't pull out a win, falling 23-25, 25-12, 25-13, 13-25, 11-15.

Dominika Logue added nine kills, Marli Hawk 20 digs and Morgan Cumberland 13 assists for Union.

Boys Golf

David Gaspersic earned medalist honors with a 37 as Freeport (11-6) defeated Deer Lakes, 223-267.
