Keth, Brookville get past Moniteau

Raider quarterback throws for 330 in 35-24 win

BROOKVILLE — Cabe Park caught five passes for 171 yards and scored three touchdowns as Brookville erased a five-point third quarter deficit by scoring the final 16 tallies en route to a 35-24 victory over Moniteau Friday night.

The first half was a back and forth affair, as both teams traded touchdowns during the first two quarters.

The Warriors opened the scoring by marching 67 yards on 10 plays on their first possession, which was capped off by a 6-yard touchdown run by Nick Martino.

Brookville answered right back as Robert Keth connected with Cabe Park for an 18-yard touchdown that knotted the score at 6 after one quarter.

Moniteau regained the lead late in the second quarter with its best drive of the night. Beginning from their own 15 yard line, the Warriors marched 85 yards in 14 plays, all runs. Quarterback Chance Nagy took it in from five yards out to give the Warriors a 12-6 lead.

That lead was short-lived, however, as Brookville needed just over a minute to tie the score again. Ian Thrush was the recipient of Keth's second touchdown pass of the game, this one from 67 yards.

Keth threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns in the game.

“He just doesn't get rattled,” Brookville coach Scott Park said of Keth. “He made some mistakes, but he overcame them and made some big plays tonight.”

After a quick three-and- out by Moniteau, the Raiders had one more chance before halftime and they made the most of it. Keth and Thrush hooked up again with just 25 seconds left in the half to give Brookville a 19-12 lead at halftime.

Moniteau's defense stepped up early in the third quarter, turning two Brookville turnovers into 12 quick points. Nagy and Martino both scored their second touchdowns of the game as the Warriors went back on top, 24-19, midway through the third quarter.

Brookville answered again on its next possession as Keth hit Park on a 72-yard touchdown pass to give the Raiders the lead for good.

“Their speed was just too much for us tonight,” Moniteau coach Bob Rottman said. “They have a lot of fast kids on their team and you can't teach speed.”

The Raiders would put the game away in an unusual way. After gaining possession at the Moniteau 28-yard line after a Warrior fumble, Keth completed a pass to Addison Singleton, who was hit at the 15-yard line. Before going down to the ground, Singleton fumbled the ball, and Cabe Park scooped it up and went 15 yards untouched into the end zone to put the icing on the cake for the Raiders.

The Raiders defense came up big late to preserve the victory.

“We knew what they were going to do coming in,” Park said. “We knew they run the ball well, and it took us a little bit of time to get adjusted to what they were doing.”

Cody Wise and Martino led the Moniteau rushing attack with 89 and 67 yards, respectively. The Warriors rushed for 313 yards total for the game.

“Overall, I thought we ran the ball well all game,” Rottman said. “We haven't played our best football for four quarters all year, yet. Our best football is yet to come, so that is encouraging.”

The Warriors are now 3-3 as they travel to Brockway next week.

“All in all, I am proud of my kids,” Rottman said. “They played hard and I thought we were the more physical team tonight.”
