More details emerge in pedestrian fatal at Pilot station

MUDDY CREEK TWP — A 64-year-old man from Ontario, Canada died early Tuesday afternoon at the Pilot Travel Center on Route 422 West, after being run over by a dump truck.

Police said the man was killed after being run over by the dump truck, which was driven by a 75-year-old Pittsburgh man, as it was backing out of a gas pump at the station on New Castle Road.

According to the report, the truck hit the pedestrian, identified by Butler County Coroner William Young III as William Kerr, knocking him to the ground and running him over, before coming to a stop and driving forward.

Police said the dump truck driver, William T. Adams, was eventually stopped by pedestrians and did not realize that he had hit the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Portersville-Muddy Creek Emergency Medical Ambulance Service. The pronouncement was later verified by Young, police said.

State police said Tuesday evening that their investigation was ongoing and no charges had been filed.
