I-79 overpass repairs expected to start soon

JACKSON TWP — PennDOT has accepted bids for repairs to the Interstate 79 overpass over Route 68 in Jackson Township, and work is expected to begin soon.

“The apparent low bidder is Advantage Steel & Construction, LLC, at $195,730,” said Deborah Casadei, PennDOT spokeswoman. “If the bid is successfully awarded, we could expect work to begin in the next couple of weeks.”

Lane restrictions will remain in effect until the repairs are completed, and daytime restrictions are set on Route 68 while work is under way.

Casadei said last week that PennDOT hopes to have the work done by the end of October.

Emergency crews initially responded to an accident on Route 68 the morning of Sept. 4, after an excavator hit the overpass.

Crews temporarily closed Route 68 for cleanup. While they worked, a truck with the oversized load also struck the overpass, becoming wedged under it, according to Harmony Fire District officials.
