Knoch's Greb advances to WPIAL final

Butler earns volleyball win; SR girls soccer edges Knoch

Knoch sophomore Laura Greb won three matches Thursday to advance to Friday's WPIAL Class AA girls tennis individual final at Shady Side Academy.

Greb, the defending district champion, defeated Greensburg Salem's Abby Jo Stull and Winchester Thurston's Alexandra Friedlander by identical 10-0 scores.

In the semifinals, Greb dispatched Beaver's Devyn Campbell 6-0, 6-1 and will face Simran Bedi of Sewickley Academy today in the championship match.

Greb's teammate, Brooke Bauer, won her first two matches — 10-0 over Vincentian Academy's Angie Dalton and 10-3 against Ellis School's Stephanie Ohori — before falling to Bedi in the semifinals 6-4, 6-2.

Bauer will meet Campbell in today's third-place consolation match, with the winner earning a spot in the state tournament.

Class AAA — Mars senior Amelia Haley will also be competing in a consolation match after losing in the semifinals to Baldwin's Beth Yauch 6-3, 6-0.

Haley had defeated Fox Chapel's Kristen Friday (10-0) and Peters Township's Kat Wang (10-5) to reach the final four.

Butler's Reagan Sommariva lost in the first round, 10-2 to Mia Gorman of Bethel Park.

Boys Golf

Shea Moffa and Chris Sicher had a busy Thursday.

Sicker shot a 76 and Moffa a 78 at Pittsburgh North to qualify for the WPIAL Championships early in the day and then returned to Saxon to lead Mars to a 202-309 win over Highlands.

Moffa shot a 35 and Sicher a 37 in that match for the Planets (8-4).

Seneca Valley 181, Knoch 229 — Zach Brown and Ryan Bartos each shot a 1-under 34 at Cranberry Highlands to lead Seneca Valley.

Beau Rusnak shot a 40 to lead Knoch.

Freeport 229, Jeannette 316 — At Greensburg Country Club, the Yellowjackets (8-5, 7-2) were paced by David Gaspersic's 39. Slade Ohl added a 44.

KSAC MegaMatch — Ethan McDeavitt shot a 45 as Moniteau finished fourth at the final MegaMatch of the season.

McDeavitt also had the fourth-lowest average score for the season, averaging 43.67 strokes per match.

Moniteau placed third as a team behind second-place Clarion and first-place Clarion-Limestone.

C-L's Hayden Siegel was the top golfer this season, averaging 40.89.

District 10, Region 2 — Chad Green fired an 84 to help Slippery Rock (356) to a fifth-place finish.

Grove City won with a 317.

Logan Wolak added an 88, Ryan Dorrier a 91 and Walker Allison a 93 for the Rockets.

Girls Golf

Cami McNany and Jayden Rottman each shot a 46, with McNany placing first, to lead A-C Valley to a MegaMatch win.

Amanda Dailey of Moniteau and Mady Hetzler of A-C Valley tied for third with a 46.

Kendall Grossman shot a 55 to lead Moniteau, which finished second.

Girls Volleyball

Maria Lucas dropped nine kills and added seven digs as Butler swept visiting Fox Chapel by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-13.

Taylor Welter contributed seven kills and Sophia Sacriponte seven kills and three blocks for Butler (5-2, 3-2).

Freeport 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 — The Yellowjackets crushed the Vikings by scores of 25-5, 25-3 and 25-4.

Isabella Russo led the dominant effort for Freeport (5-1, 5-0) with 10 kills and four blocks. Ally DeJidas added seven kills and four blocks and Lauren Lampus seven kills.

Samantha Clark dished out 36 assists and Erica Lampus had 22 digs, 18 service points and five aces.

A-C Valley 3, Forest Area 0 — Kaylie Merwin's 23 service points and eight aces helped douse the Fires with scores of 25-6, 25-3 and 25-8.

Also starring for the Falcons (6-0) were Tarra Stefanacci with six aces, Emily Wetzel 10 assists, Olivia Boocks six kills, Meah Ielase five kills and Hannah Farrington 11 service points.

A-C Valley's junior varsity team also won via sweep.

Knoch 3, Lincoln Park 0 — Kennedy Christy and Skylar Burkett both tallied 13 kills and Hannah Rowe added nine kills in the Knights' 25-15, 25-8 and 25-7.

Knoch improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in section action.

Karns City 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Alyssa Stitt had 13 aces an Rayna Miller five kills as the Gremlins earned a 25-7, 25-7, 25-11.

Emma Clark added seven aces for Karns City.

Slippery Rock 3, Greenville 1 — Annika Peale had 11 kills and Taylor Balint 22 digs to lead the Rockets to a 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-11 win over the Trojans.

Morgan Malinski pitched in 21 assists and Tiffany Madison six blocks for Slippery Rock (2-4).

Cranberry 3, Moniteau 0 — Sam Broerman had three kills for the Warriors in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 loss.

Union 3, North Clarion 0 — Morgan Cumberland had 19 assists and Bryn Davis added nine kills as the Damsels won 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.

Marli Hawk added 16 digs and Dominika Logue seven points, five aces and eight kills.

North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley 1 — The Raiders fell in this section match by scores of 18-25, 19-25, 26-24 and 16-25.

Sarah White had seven kills and five blocks for the Raiders (1-6, 1-4).

Anna DeGraaf had five blocks and Bre Reynolds also had seven kills.

Girls Soccer

Ellie Reiser scored a pair of goals and Emily Sarver also found the net as Slippery Rock (6-1) edged Knoch 3-2.

Lindsie Galbreath scored both goals for the Knights (1-6). Galbreath has 98 career goals.

Karns City 3, DuBois 0 — Hunter Dittman scored a pair of goals and also had an assist on a goal by Brooke Stahlman as the Gremlins (6-1) blanked DuBois.

Cross Country

Gavin Schmoll placed first to help Karns City's boys defeat Union/A-C Valley 18-38.

The Falcon Knights eked out a 27-28 win in the girls' race, with Abigail Burns leading the way with a top finish.

Kaden Scherer and Brayden Christie each had two assists for the Gremlins.

Deer Lakes 4, Freeport 3 (2OT) — Hunter Hardin scored twice for the Yellowjackets (5-4, 3-3) and Cole Bennick scored once.

Mars 6, Knoch 0 — Austin Rocke tallied two goals for the Planets. No other details were available.

Private Schools

Elijah White had three goals and two assists to lead Portersville Christian School's soccer team to an 8-1 victory against Evangel Heights Christian Academy.

Jackson Vosmaer added two goals and one assist and Derek Butterworth one goal and one assist for PCS (9-1).
