With a cold-front moving into the area early Friday evening, Butler County could see an enhanced risk of severe storms and isolated tornadoes throughout the area.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, said some storms within the system could be strong and the main threat will be damaging wind gusts, which could impact power lines and cause down trees and tree limbs. There is also the potential for large hail, and heavy localize rainfall is to be expected.

“It's a very narrow band of storms, so there won't be rain over the same area for a long period of time,” said Lee Hendricks, a Pittsburgh meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “The biggest thing would be storm drains backing up, and water accumulating in poor drainage areas, and low lying areas.”

While the enhanced risk of storms is something to be aware and conscious of, it isn't anything to be worried about at this time, he said.

Hendricks said some conditions are present that could produce a tornado, but whether one will actually occur is uncertain.

“Any problems will be isolated,” he said. “Keep aware of the weather as the evening progresses.”
