Freshman wins WPIAL Qualifier

Butler freshman Paige Scott fired a 76 at Suncrest Golf Course Wednesday to place first at the WPIAL Girls Individual Qualifier.

Scott's finish advanced her to the WPIAL Girls Individual Finals, which will be held Oct. 3.

Maggie Feczko shot a 94, Chloe Paulisick a 102 and Landis Ruth a 106 for the Golden Tornado. Those three did not qualify.

KSAC MegaMatch —Jayden Rottman fired a 44 to lead A-C Valley to a MegaMatch win. Cami McNany was second for the Falcons with a 48.

Moniteau finished second as a team with Amanda Dailey shooting a 50 for a third-place finish.

Boys Soccer

Ian Balquist and Ryan Davey each scored a pair of goals as Slippery Rock routed Franklin, 6-0.

Ryan Hinchberger and Alex Duffalo also scored for SR (3-2-1, 2-0-1).

Girls Soccer

Gabby Boden scored with 52 seconds left in the second overtime as Butler edged North Allegheny 2-1.

Aidyn Trettel scored the first goal for the Golden Tornado (4-2-1, 3-2).

Franklin Regional 3, Knoch 0 — Lauren Galbreath stopped five shots for Knoch. The Knights (1-5, 1-4) host Slippery Rock on Thursday.

Boys Golf

Seneca Valley will send three golfers to the Class AAA semifinals. Mark McNulty (78), Zach Brown (78) and Ryan Bartos (80) each made the cut during the Section 3 tournament at Suncrest Golf Course.

Also advancing was Butler's Brayden Setnar, who shot a 76.

Pine-Richland's Jack Wymard won the section title with a 72.

Freeport's David Gaspersic shot an 85 Tuesday to place fourth out of 22 golfers, but fell two strokes shy of advancing in Class AA section golf play.

Burrell's Tiger Hubbard (80) and Marcus Pinchok (83) advanced, as did Leechburg's Cole Villa (81).

Girls Volleyball

Tabitha Walker dished out 24 assists and had 17 digs in Butler's sweep of host Latrobe.

Butler defeated the Wildcats by scores of 25-16, 34-32 and 25-16.

Maria Lucas tallied nine kills and 17 digs, Sophia Lucas eight kills and 17 digs and Julia Gibson eight kills for the Golden Tornado (3-2).
