Community Health Clinic celebrates 10 years, changes name
Big news emerged from the Community Health Clinic of Butler County's 10th birthday party on Thursday, and it honors the nonagenarian whose idea 11 years ago became the thriving clinic serving county residents in need today.
The clinic has changed its name to the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center of Butler County.
Kim Reamer, executive director at the clinic, said Purvis got the idea for the clinic after a trip to South Carolina, where she saw a free clinic serving the least, the last and the lost of the community. Upon her return home, Purvis gathered a few friends and tore into the idea of starting a free clinic in Butler.
“We wanted to honor her for all she's done and all she continues to do for the clinic,” Reamer said.
The surprise announcement was made during the clinic's 10th birthday party, where visitors enjoyed hot dogs and cupcakes as well as tours of the clinic and vendors set up in the parking lot.
