Sentencing Court

The following sentences were handed down Thursday by Butler County President Judge William Shaffer:

Derek Hays, 27, of Butler is under house arrest for the first 30 days of a 12-month intermediate punishment for simple assault. He will also need to undergo drug and alcohol treatment during this period. He was originally charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.

James A. Fresh, 50, of Parker, a repeat offender of driving drunk, will have to pay a $750 fine and serve six months of intermediate punishment. For the first 42 days, he will be under house arrest. He will also have to take driving safety classes and do 60 hours of community service.

Gary John Seybert, 41, of Butler was sentenced to 3 to 12 months of imprisonment for burglary. He’s already served the minimum sentence, having resided in Butler County Prison since June 12. When he’s released, he’s facing 24 months of probation. He must also pay a fine of more than $1,000.

John Thomas O’Brien, 36, of Valencia must pay a $1,000 fine, complete 60 hours of community service, serve a year in jail and another year of probation for driving while impaired and a suspended license.

Christopher Leroy Anthony, 35, of Chicora is already serving an incarceration sentence of 42 to 82 months in Westmoreland County for theft. Judge Shaffer added two jail sentences of 30 to 60 months to run at the same time for theft and receiving stolen property.

John Braxton Gonchoff, 25, of Moundsville, W.Va., will be under probation for 12 months for retail theft and drug possession. He must also pay a $75 fine and undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Alan Miller, 37, of Butler who pleaded guilty to retail theft, was sentenced to 30 months probation and must continue to comply with his mental health treatment and pay Walmart an undefined restitution.

Judge Shaffer sentenced Anthony Jona Parrotta, 26, of Kittanning to 24 months probation for retail theft.

Craig Andrew Wehr, 40, of Butler was sentenced to 12 months probation for possessing drug paraphernalia.
