Trojans survive scare

North Catholic nips CV, 14-13 in road battle

Eamon Straub's 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, followed by Will Kunzmann's extra point, proved to be the difference as North Catholic escaped with a 14-13 non-conference football victory at winless Central Valley Friday night.

The Trojans' first score came in the second quarter when quarterback Zack Rocco connected with Tyree Brown on a 40-yard strike.

Rocco completed 16 of 24 passes for 194 yards in the game.

North Catholic (4-0) travels to Derry next Friday for a Big Eight Conference clash.

Otto-Eldred 47, Union/A-C Valley 25 — Nolan Cumberland's 4-yard touchdown run and ensuing extra point gave the Falcon Knights a brief 7-6 lead in the first quarter, but the Terrors scored 20 straight points and never trailed again.

Cumberland added a short touchdown run in the third period. Luke Bowser (7-yard run) and Kylar Culbertson (69 kickoff return) also scored for the Falcon Knights (1-3), who host Elk County Catholic next Friday.

Burgettstown 41, Summit Academy 0 — The Knights remained winless with this non-conference road defeat.

Summit Academy returns to action next Saturday, hosting East Allegheny at 12:30 p.m.

Boys Golf

Beau Rusnak earned medalist honors with a 38 Thursday as Knoch defeated Armstrong 218-244 at Butler Country Club.

Girls Soccer

Sidney Shemanski and Emma Check scored two goals each as Freeport shut out Valley, 5-0, recently. Carlie Giori also scored.

Giori, Check, Shemanski and Kylie Hoffman all had assists. Maddie Wagner and Maddie Zarichnak made three saves each in goal.

Girls Tennis

Knoch swept its way to a victory over North Catholic.

The doubles duos of Libby Conlon/Alex Jaksec and Jadyn Brown/Bri Walchesky both downed the Trojanettes.

Jackson Vosmaer scored two goals each as Portersville Christian defeated Beaver County Christian, 4-3, in soccer.

Carter Shandick added a goal and assist for PCS (7-1).
