[naviga:h3]Picnic in the park set in Boyers[/naviga:h3]

BOYERS — There will be a community picnic in the park from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Boyers Community Park, 2373 West Sunbury Road, across from the old Marion Elementary School.

There will be food available for purchase, games, a performance by American Idol contestant Isaac Cole from 4 to 5 p.m. and an outdoor movie after dark, “Harry and the Hendersons.”

Take a dessert to share and a lawn chair or blanket for the movie.

[naviga:h3]Candle, illusion crafting offered[/naviga:h3]

MARS — The Mars Public Library, 107 Grand Ave, has the following events scheduled:

- 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22, Illusions: Learn about the science behind optical illusions and how to make your own in a program geared toward a kindergarten to fourth-grade audience and lasting an hour to 90 minutes. Registration required.

- 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 adult craft night — DIY Halloween candles.

Come any time during this craft open house. There is no charge for this event. Take your own candles.

Wide candles will work best. The rest will be supplied to make them festive for Halloween. Registration required.

[naviga:h3]Fire prevention contest open[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — Sept. 27 is the deadline to submit entries in the Butler Township Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest.

Open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade at McQuiston, Northwest and Connoquenessing elementary schools, entries must be on a 22-by-28-inch white poster board and have the parents’ names and contact number, the student’s name and grade, and the name of the school and room number on the back.

Entries can either be dropped off at the municipal building, 290 S. Duffy Road, or given to teachers at the schools.

Winners will be named at the Oct. 15 board of commissioners meeting. Prizes include a first-place trophy and frozen yogurt gift cards.
