Freeport edges KC

Yellowjackets earn 1-0 girls soccer win; Knoch volleyball cruises past Mars

Abby Bastaja scored off an assist from Sidney Shemanski, lifting Freeport to a 1-0 girls soccer victory over Karns City on Thursday.

The host Yellowjackets (3-2) received five saves from Maddie Zarichnak. Cambry Powers stopped 10 shots for the Gremlins (3-1).

Boys Golf

Moniteau's Ethan McDeavitt carded a 35 at a KSAC MegaMatch held at Hi-Level Golf Course.

The effort was good for second overall behind Clarion-Limestone's Hayden Siegel, who shot a 33.

The Warriors (214 strokes) placed second in the team standings behind the Lions (203).

The Rockets finished with 355 strokes. Scoring for them were Walker Allison (81), Logan Wolak (86), Chad Green (91) and Ryan Dorrier (97).

Girls Volleyball

Skylar Burkett dropped eight kills and 18 service points as Knoch made quick work of Mars in a 3-0 decision.

The Knights (5-0, 4-0) won by scores of 25-7, 25-6 and 25-6.

Kennedy Christy added 10 kills to the victory, Hannah Rowe seven kills and 10 service points and Kerrie Fitzpatrick 15 service points.

Freeport 3, East Allegheny 0 — Mackensey Jack had 19 points and six aces and Lauren Lampus added seven kills as the Yellowjackets rolled 25-7, 25-8, 25-8.

Isabella Russo and Ally DeJidas each pitched in six kills for Freeport (3-1, 3-0).

A-C Valley 3, Karns City 0 — Olivia Boocks had 16 points, six aces and 10 kills as the Falcons downed the Gremlins 25-20, 25-9, 25-7.

Emily Wetzel added 35 assists and three kills and Kylee Eaton had 16 digs, 11 kills and three blocks for A-C Valley (3-0).

Conneaut 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Taylor Balint had 11 digs and eight service points, but the Rockets dropped a 25-14, 25-22, 25-11 decision.

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — Julia Gibson had four kills for the Golden Tornado (2-2, 2-2), who fell to the Tigers by scores of 25-23, 25-12, 25-17.

Boys Soccer

Mark Ciora scored twice and Adam Walker once in Knoch's 3-0 win at Armstrong.

Butler 3, North Allegheny 1 — Tate Mohney had two goals and Adam Blose one for the Tornado.

Freeport 6, Valley 0 — Cole Bennick tallied two goals and an assist for the Yellowjackets (4-2, 2-1).

Also scoring were Hunter Hardin, Addison Stewart, Jonathan Merli and Isaac Carley.

Girls Tennis

Knoch's Laura Greb won the Section 3-AA singles title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over teammate Brooke Bauer.

Butler No. 1 singles player Reagan Sommariva advanced to the WPIAL tournament by placing third in Section 2-AAA.

Sommariva lost to North Allegheny's Ashley Huang 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals, but rebounded with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory in the consolation match.
