9:07 p.m. Monday — Thomas Deangelo, 56, of Butler was uninjured after the car he was driving caught fire in the 100 block of South Duffy Road. Police said Deangelo managed to get out of the 2006 Buick Lucerne before the rear end ignited in flames.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3 firefighters were called and put out the blaze. Police said they had to close South Duffy Road from Staley Avenue to Route 68 until the fire was out and the car towed from the scene.

Aug. 28 — Jo Ann Steele, 42, of Penn Township was charged with failing to appear as a witness at a preliminary hearing. Police said that she was a no-show despite being served with a subpoena to testify at the Aug. 15 hearing in district court in Saxonburg.

Police also noted that the defendant made no attempt to contact police, 911 or the court to advise authorities that she could not attend the hearing.

Steele is charged with being an absconding witness.

Tuesday — Aaron M. Zitalone, 20, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop about 2:25 a.m. Sept. 2 on Franklin Street in Slippery Rock. He was stopped, police said, after running a red light at North Main and New Castle streets in the borough.

Zitalone was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, according to court documents, and he was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.093 percent.

In Pennsylvania, drivers under 21 are considered to be intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or higher. The legal limit for deemed adult drivers is 0.08 percent.

Zitalone is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking, careless driving and failing to stop at a red light.

Sept. 7 — Police charged an Armstrong County man and a Butler County woman with having marijuana and other drug contraband stemming from a July traffic stop in Clearfield Township.

Glenn C. Bowser, 25, of Cowansville and Karli L. Wolfe, 22, of Donegal Township were found in the car that was pulled over running a stop sign on the 2800 block of Old Route 422 east.

Police said that during a search of the car they found a baggie of suspected marijuana and a drug-smoking pipe. Bowser also was found with an open can of an alcoholic beverage.

Bowser and Wolfe are both charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police also cited Bowser for violating the state’s open container law.

1:25 p.m. Sept. 6 — Kaitlyn M. Stroup, 28, no known address, was arrested after she allegedly gave police a false name and was caught with suspected drug contraband after causing a disturbance at a business on Route 38 in Summit Township.

Police were called to Bob Warren Boat Sales after the owner reported the defendant was inside “yelling and causing a public inconvenience,” according to court documents.

Troopers got there and noted Stroup’s “loud and erratic behavior” as indicated as someone being impaired on drugs. She admitted having recently smoked crack cocaine, documents said.

Police said she was arrested after she gave her sister’s name when troopers asked for identification. A subsequent search turned up a syringe and drug-smoking pipe and a ball of Chore Boy copper scrubber.

Stroup was arraigned on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement authorities, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. She was place in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

Sept. 5 — An Allegheny County man was charged with being more than 2½ times the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a traffic stop last month in Slippery Rock.

Police said they stopped the defendant, Bradley V. Collas, 21, of South Park, at 2:10 a.m. after they saw his car cross over the center line on Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township and the fog line on Franklin Street in neighboring Slippery Rock.

Collas submitted to a portable breath test device that indicated he had alcohol in his system, according to court documents. He also failed field sobriety tests.

Police subsequently took Collas for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.22 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

In addition to driving under the influence, Collas is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and failing to carry his driver’s license.

Aug. 31 — Police charged Louise E. Cain, 68, of Slippery Rock with DUI in connection with an earlier traffic stop in Slippery Rock Township. She was pulled over Aug. 23, according to court documents, for crossing over the solid yellow line five times and the white fog line once on Route 173.

Cain admitted she had a glass of wine earlier that evening, police said. She later showed impairment during field sobriety testing. A breath test indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.15 percent.

She is charged with DUI and disregarding traffic lanes.
