Scoop soaring thus far

I’m flying high.

Another great week for the Ol’ Scoopster as I went 9-1 to raise my season record to 27-4.

It’s my best start since ... I don’t know when. But it’s certainly my best start in quite a long time.

Lets’ see if I can keep the good time rolling.

On to the picks:

Pine-Richland 44, Butler 9 — Since Pine-Richland lost in Week Zero to that college team masquerading as a high school team in Florida, the Rams have dismantled their last two opponents.

Butler played better, particularly early, against Mt. Lebanon, but still lost.

This is another monumental task for an inexperienced Tornado team trying to build one brick at a time.

Seneca Valley 30, Mt. Lebanon 17 — The Raiders shut out a depleted Canon McMillan team last week.

Mt. Lebo will present a stiffer challenge for the Raiders’ defense this week.

Still, SV will prevail.

Highlands 26, Knoch 16 — The Knights are banged up and face a Highlands’ team that is capable of putting points on the board.

It’s a bad combination for Knoch.

Penn Hills 22, Mars 17 — In perhaps the marquee game of this week, the Planets’ defense will be put to the test against Penn Hills.

Speed may be the difference in this one. Penn Hills has a lot of it.

I don’t see Penn Hills getting many 10-play drives in this one. The Indians’ points are going to come thanks to the quick strike.

They’ll get just enough to topple Mars.

North Catholic 41, Central Valley 9 — The Trojans showed just how good they are last week when they took apart a good, solid Freeport team.

Central Valley is struggling this season and those struggles will continue.

Elizabeth Forward 18, Freeport 15 — My heart is saying the Yellowjackets won’t start 0-3.

But my gut is saying Elizabeth Forward will find a way to eke out a road win and put Freeport into a deep hole.

I hope my gut is wrong.

Karns City 28, Moniteau 19 — The juice is back in this rivalry.

Both teams are 1-2, but both have played better than that record.

Karns City is just a few poor minutes away from being 3-0. Moniteau is a bad start away from being 2-1.

These teams are evenly matched, but I think KC will find a way to win. Just a hunch.

Otto-Eldred 27, Union/A-C Valley 16 — The Falcon Knights showed they aren’t just going to be an easy W on the schedule this season last week, nearly upsetting Curwensville.

They’ll play a tough Otto-Eldred team down to the wire.

Slippery Rock 22, Sharon 19 — In another great matchup this week, the Rockets try to avenge two losses to the Tigers last season, one in the District 10 playoffs.

The difference this year is the Rockets’ offense has found itself an identity and a featured back in Kaleb Kamerer.

Sharon has dominated the series over the years, but now it’s the Rockets’ turn.

Burgettstown 30, Summit Academy 12 — It’s been a rough three weeks for the Knights, who are still looking for their first points of the season.

They’ll get them in this one, but they’ll still come up short.

Scoop just doesn’t want a tie this week.
