[naviga:h3]Buffalo Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 28 — Jacob M. Williams, 22, of Sarver was charged with having marijuana and other drug contraband stemming from a traffic stop in the 500 block of Sarver Road.

Police said they stopped Williams about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17, after a patrol officer smelled marijuana coming from the area of a pizza shop parking lot on Route 356 and spotted the defendant’s sport utility vehicle pull out of the lot.

The officer detected the same odor as he approached Williams’ car, according to court documents. The defendant subsequently handed over a cigarette pack that contained six suspected marijuana joints.

Police said they later searched the vehicle and found a marijuana pipe in the center console.

Williams is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

[naviga:h3]Butler Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

4:09 p.m. Aug. 31 — One person was hurt when a pickup truck driven by Chris A. Shuster, 48, of Butler collided with a car in the 200 block of South Duffy Road. The other driver, Kimberly Maire, 45, of Butler was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with an apparent minor injury.

Police cited Shuster for making an improper left turn.

3:46 p.m. Aug. 31 — Two people were injured in a four-vehicle wreck at the Walmart parking lot at Butler Commons. Terry Cranmer, 70, and Hannah Rathmann, 28, both of Butler, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.

Police said Cranmer was traveling down the traffic way to the main parking lot when he experienced a “medical condition” that caused him to lose control of his vehicle. He struck three parked vehicles. Rathmann was in one of those other vehicles.

Three vehicles in the wreck had to be towed.

9:59 a.m. Aug. 29 — Darlene M. White, 58, was arrested after she allegedly failed to disclose to Butler Police that her son was at her home in Lyndora. City police were looking for her 30-year-old son on burglary charges.

White was arraigned on a felony charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution, and later released on her own recognizance.

[naviga:h3]Cranberry Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

9 p.m. Tuesday — John A. Fantino, 54, of Brackenridge, Allegheny County, was arrested for drugged driving following a one-vehicle crash on Freedom Road near Rolling Road.

According to court documents, officers found Fantino outside of the vehicle when they got there and he appeared to be impaired.

Police said they also found a crack pipe with residue in it on the vehicle’s front passenger floor. Fantino allegedly admitted that he was “smoking crack” earlier in the evening, according to court documents.

He was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, careless driving and driving with a suspended license. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

[naviga:h3]Penn Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 31 — Frank M. Severino, 66, of Boyers was charged with bouncing a check in February at Mike Kelly Automotive on Route 8.

Police said Severino on Feb. 21 wrote a check for $500 as a down payment on a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The check, according to court documents, was written on an account that had insufficient funds.

The business sent the defendant a certified letter seeking payment but to no avail. He is charged with bad checks.

Aug. 28 — Police charged a Westmoreland County man with having marijuana and other drug contraband in connection with a June traffic stop on Route 8 at McFann Road in Middlesex Township. The defendant, Ian S. Fry, 23, of Irwin, was pulled over about 5:10 p.m. June 18 because his car had a faulty brake light.

A patrol officer smelled marijuana coming from the car, according to court documents, but Fry denied having any drugs in the vehicle. He eventually admitted there was marijuana and THC wax in a drawstring bag, which he retrieved from behind the driver’s seat.

Among the other items in the bag, police said, was a bong, marijuana grinder and rolling papers.

Fry is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving a vehicle with unsafe equipment.

[naviga:h3]Butler County Detectives[/naviga:h3]

Thursday — A Butler County Prison inmate was arraigned on charges he struck another inmate with a tray last month.

Andrew J. Hoy, 24, of Butler is charged with simple assault in connection with the incident about 7:40 a.m. Aug. 27. Detectives said the alleged assault was captured on video surveillance.

Hoy is accused of lunging toward the victim, whose back was turned to the defendant, and hitting him in the back of the head with the tray.

Authorities said Hoy has been in the prison since Jan. 17. Court records showed he has four cases pending. In three of those cases, he is charged with aggravated assault.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

8 p.m. Sunday — Police were called for a reported sexual assault of a child in the county. No other information was provided. The investigation continues.

Aug. 28 — Laurette F. Myers, 50, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a May traffic stop in Penn Township. Police said they stopped her about 2 a.m. May 13 on Weckerly Road after seeing her car cross over the white fog line.

Myers admitted that she had a single glass of wine earlier that night. She also acknowledged having taken prescription medication the previous day. She was arrested for suspected impaired driving after failing field sobriety tests.

Police said the defendant was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed her blood-alcohol level. While 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law, she also had the anti-anxiety medication lorazepam in her system, according to court documents

Myers is charged with separate counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and DUI, and disregarding traffic lanes.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

Sept. 1 — Police said someone damaged a gate that leads to a gas well on Tartown Road near Glacial Sand & Gravel in East Franklin Township.

Police said the vandalism happened between 10 p.m. Aug. 31 and 8 a.m. Sept. 1 when someone used a truck to damage the metal fenced gate that is equipped with an electronic keypad.
