Freeport girls net section victory
Sidney Shemanski and Emma Check each scored a pair of goals as the Freeport girls soccer team opened the section season with a 4-1 win over Highlands.
Abby Bastaja and Carlie Giori each had a pair of assists for the Yellowjackets (1-1, 1-0).
Maddie Wagner stopped four shots in goal.
Butler 3, Fox Chapel 2 — Chloe Weiland's goal broke a 2-2 tie with 11 minutes left as the Golden Tornado (2-0-1, 1-0) opened the Section 1 slate with a victory over the visiting Foxes.
Gabby Boden and Emily Fleeger also scored for Butler.
Karns 7, Clarion 0 — Brooke Stahlman scored three goals and Hunter Dittman chipped in a goal and three assists as the Gremlins rolled in their season-opener.
Olivia Rumbaugh added two goals and an assist and McKenna Lavella also found the net.
Kiski Area 6, Knoch 3 — The Knights dropped their season opener despite three goals friom Lindsie Galbreath. Gabi Oskin, Shiann Thomas and Maddi Boyer had assists.
Knoch plays at Mars Saturday night.
Boys Golf
Mark McNulty, Jimmy Stoltenberg and Zach Brown each shot a 35 to lead Seneca Valley to a 181-240 win over Butler.
Brayden Setnar had the lowest score for the Golden Tornado with a 42.

Mars 213, Knoch 216 — At Rittswood, Cody Killian paced the Planets (5-3) with a 37.

A-C Valley won the Megamatch at Hi-Level Golf Course as Cami McNany earned medaliast honors with a 46. The Falcons shot 155, second-place Moniteau 163.
Kendall Grossman carded a 51 for the Warriors. Hailey Campbell of Moniteau and Jayden Rottman of A-C Valley shot 54.
Girls Volleyball
Moniteau 3, North Clarion 0 — Logan Barnhart had 10 assists and Abby Regal added six kills for the Warriors in this 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 win late Tuesday.
Private Schools
Elijah White scored three goals and an assist as Portersville Christian's boys soccer team defeated First Baptist Christian, 6-0.
Jackson Vosmaer added two goals and an assist for PCS (5-0).
Cross Country
Gavin Schmoll placed first overall to aid Karns City's boys in a 22-35 win over visiting Moniteau. His time was 21 minutes, 42 seconds.
Karns City also won the girls' event by a 27-32 count, but Moniteau's Hannah Burgoon placed first at 24:51.
