COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN

Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St., will have Welcome Back Sunday this week as the worship service will return to 11 a.m. Holy Communion will be celebrated. The full choir will sing in the worship service.

There will be a potluck luncheon in the assembly room immediately after the morning service.

The People for Peace study group will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 13 in the Assembly Room.

FAITH UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The deacons of Faith United Presbyterian, 1329 North Main Street Extension, will meet after Sunday worship.

During the week, the AA Group meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Weight Watchers meets at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. Sept. 13 and 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., begins the new year of Sunday School with Funday Sunday from 9:15 to 9:50 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. worship service.

GLADE RUN UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Glade Run United Presbyterian Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, has kickoff Rally Day at 10 a.m. Sunday. There will be games and activities for children, a chance for children to meet their Sunday school teacher and first-graders will receive their Bibles.

GRACE @ CALVARY LUTHERAN

Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., has Ladies’ Night Out at 5:30 p.m. today at the Rock Ann Haven, 141 Greenwood Drive. All ladies of all ages are invited.

The men of Grace are invited to the BALM Gathering of Men at 8 a.m. Saturday at Rider Lutheran Church, 189 Rider Church Road, West Sunbury, for breakfast, fellowship and conversation.

Grace’s Closet free clothing bank is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. No proof of income is required. Each family may fill one large bag.

There will be a TED talk with a faith-based theme followed by conversation on the topic at 9 a.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Hall.

BALM Youth Group will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Relay For Life will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the social hall.

The property and finance committee meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and the worship and music committee will meet at 7 p.m.

HILL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

The Rev. Leigh Benish from the Grace Presbyterian Church, Temple, Texas, will preach at 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship with a congregational meeting to follow at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St. The handbell choir will ring at the service.

Fall activities will begin next week — Women’s Bible study at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and weekly Kids Club from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

The food request for September is spaghetti or spaghetti sauce.

MARS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, celebrates Rally day at its 10 a.m. Sunday worship service. Luncheon follows the service and festivities for the children.

The Women’s Bible study will start the fall season 1:30 p.m. Monday. All are welcome to attend.

GriefShare will start its fall sessions at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The chancel choir will have its first rehearsal at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

NIXON U.M.

Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, will begin its fall schedule Sunday. Sunday services are 8:30 and 11 a.m., with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., and the new contemporary MORE service at 7 on Sunday evenings with child care available.

RIDER LUTHERAN CHURCH

Rider Lutheran Church, 189 Rider Church Road, West Sunbury, will have the BALM men’s breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Church Council will meet following the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service.

SAINT ANDREWS UNITED PRESBYTERIAN

Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., celebrates the Lord’s Supper during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Rally Day will be Sunday. After a 9:15 a.m. breakfast in the Memorial Room, Saint Andrews will commission Sunday school teachers during worship later in the morning.

The Canticleer Ringers and Chancel Choir have their first rehearsal tonight. The handbell choir rehearses from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. The choir rehearses from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

The September First Sunday Mission Offering is used to support our sponsored child at the Indo-American Home for Children. The Fall Indoor Yard Sale will be on Oct. 12-13. Bring your gently used items to the church by Oct. 1, so that our organizers have plenty of time to sort and price donations before the sale. For more information, call Anzie Kelley.

SOUTH BUTLER ASSEMBLY OF GOD

South Butler Assembly of God Church, 160 Brownsdale Road, will have missionaries to Mexico Richard and Jennifer DeMartino at the 10:15 a.m. Sunday service. The DeMartinos will be sharing about their mission time in Mexico.

The public is invited for a time of worship, study in the word and fellowship.

A fellowship meal to follow the service.

SPRINDALE LUTHERAN

Springdale Lutheran Church, 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury, celebrates Holy Communion and Holy Baptism at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service with retired Pastor Karl Schoch.

ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN

St. John’s Lutheran Church of Connoquenessing, 100 Main St., Connoquenessing, welcomes Pastor Gary Brown back into the pulpit following his vacation at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service, the fall and winter start time.

Sign up for the catered luncheon, scheduled immediately following the Sept. 16 worship service, in celebration of Pastor Brown’s 50th anniversary of his ordination.

The Church Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

All members are invited to help clean the church grounds and picnic pavilion beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday to prepare for the scheduled outdoor Luncheon for Pastor Brown.

ST. JOHN’S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City, has its “Putting on Our Love Shoes” Rally Day at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The Garden Club meets 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Consistory meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The worship committee meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday followed by the praise team at 6 p.m. and choir practice at 7 p.m.

The church will be open afternoons Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to set up for the rummage sale which begins Sept. 13. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 and 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 during the Evans City Oktoberfest.

ST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg, celebrates Communion Sunday at the 8:15 a.m. service in the sanctuary and the 10 a.m. service on the Hattie Cooper Room patio.

The annual quilt show will be in Centennial Hall Saturday and Sunday during the Arts Festival

VALENCIA PRESBYTERIAN

Valencia Presbyterian Church, 80 Sterrett St., Valencia, kicks off the fall with Back to Church Sunday with Blessing of the Backpacks and Communion being served during the 10 a.m. worship service.

Children’s Sunday school, adult/teen Bible study and women’s Bible study will kick off that morning at 9 a.m.

Midweek women’s Bible study starts at 10 a.m. today, and men’s Bible study starts at 7 a.m. Saturday, both in the church lounge.

ZION LUTHERAN

Zion Lutheran Church, 266 Zion Church Road, Chicora, celebrates its 160th anniversary at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service including the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Following the worship service, there will be a butterfly release in memory or in honor of family and friends. The celebration will conclude with a potluck picnic.
