Miss Universe to visit Cranberry Township

CRANBERRY TWP — The reigning Miss Universe will visit the township this week.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa, will give a presentation on her campaign, titled “Unbreakable,” at 6 p.m. Friday in the township Municipal Center. The program was created after Nel-Peters was involved in a violent carjacking in her home country shortly after being crowned Miss South Africa. She decided she would use her reign as Miss Universe to create a campaign that trains women to be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to deal with extreme situations, including sexual harassment, assault and abusive relationships.

In partnership with self-defense experts, trainers and other educators with whom she collaborated in formulating the program, Nel-Peters has traveled internationally to raise awareness of her empowerment crusade.

During Friday's event, she will be joined by fellow titleholders Olivia Suchko, Miss Pennsylvania USA, and Kailey Grill, who is currently Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA. All will be available for photographs and autographs.

Admission is free to the event, which is co-sponsored by Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau.
