Ignore the elephant

The grand jury report on child abuse was limited to Catholic Institutions. It is only fair to compare them to public schools.

From Wikipedia: “And a major 2004 study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education found that nearly 10 percent of U.S. public school students reported having been targeted with sexual attention by school employees. Indeed, one critic has claimed that sexual harassment and abuse by teachers is 100 times more frequent than abuse by priests.”

One study found there had been, in one year, 201 abuse allegations nationally against Catholic priests and 29,000 allegations of abuse against public school personnel.

Will the Attorney General and media work as diligently to provide equal focus on child abuse in the public schools? Will they apply the same high standards regarding cover-ups to public school superintendents as to Catholic bishops? Will public school employees be examined as thoroughly as those in Catholic schools?

Many, including some attorneys, certainly hope so!

Or, will the Attorney General, the media, editors and reporters continue to ignore the elephant in the room?
