Sign vandalized at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School

A sign at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School was vandalized overnight.

The sign at the entrance near Route 228 was discovered Monday morning with red spray paint over Wuerl's name. The North Catholic lettering was untouched.

The incident occurs as a petition on Change.org aims to remove Wuerl's name from the school in Cranberry Township.

As of Monday morning, more than 6,600 people had signed the petition.

Wuerl's name appears more than 100 times in a state grand jury report on sexual abuse by priests in Pennsylvania's Catholic organizations. Wuerl is quickly becoming associated with church efforts to minimize sexual abuse allegations over the years, and he's repeatedly described in the report as dealing with accused priests by relocating them.
