Butler County's great daily newspaper

School police

I am deeply disappointed in Butler’s school administrators, staff and parents for regarding their children as criminals. What other explanation is there for a school police force armed with batons, tasers and handcuffs?

I think they have it wrong — very, very wrong. Students are not criminals. Even students who are misbehaving are not criminals. If this is the best administrators can come up with, they should be fired or resign.

Butler schools already have metal detectors and armed guards to protect against potential shooters. No, this new police force is aimed at intimidating and controlling students.

Butler County already has city, township, and state police on duty, as well as sheriff’s deputies. But for the fearful, there will never be enough police officers nor enough guns.
