Man sentenced to prison for homicide

Christopher Cannon
East Butler victim stabbed to death

The daughter of an East Butler murder victim told the defendant, who was sentenced Thursday to a lengthy state prison term for her father's 2016 stabbing death, to seek a relationship with God and ask for forgiveness while he is in jail.

Megan Myers, daughter of the late James S. Martin, 74, spoke to Christopher M. Cannon, 28, before he was sentenced to 17¾ to 42¼ years in prison.

Cannon pleaded guilty June 29 to third-degree homicide and three felony counts of theft for killing Martin in his Tenth Street home on Dec. 30, 2016. His guilty plea was part of a plea agreement.

County Judge William Shaffer imposed the sentence in accordance with the plea agreement after Myers, William Martin, the victim's brother, and Denise Cannon, the defendant's mother, spoke.
