Save-A-Lot coming to Pullman Square

12 years after Shop n' Save left Pullman Square, Save-A-Lot is starting renovations to rent half of the building.

Preliminary work to convert about half of the former Shop n' Save in Pullman Square in Butler to discount grocery store is set to begin.

A building permit to construct a demising wall to divide the interior space and perform select interior demolition for a Save-A-Lot grocery store was issued Friday to property owner LG Realty Advisors, said John Evans, Butler building code official.

Work on the projects listed on the permit can begin anytime, he said.

The former Shop n' Save was one of the original tenants in Pullman Square when the shopping center opened in 1993 as part of the Community Development Corporation of Butler County's first phase revitalization of the former Pullman-Standard plant property. The store closed in November 2006.

The CDC completed some initial reclamation and infrastructure work before the property was bought by developer J.J. Gumberg. Gumberg built the 220,000-square-foot shopping center with Shop 'n Save and Kmart as its anchor stores. The Kmart is also closed.
