Police investigate vehicle break-ins, warn residents
State police are warning residents to take precautions in light of a number of vehicle break-ins in northern Butler County.
While still trying to identify all the victims, police so far believe six to 10 vehicles have been broken into within the past two weeks.
Among the items stolen were two guns, money, purses and electronic devices, police Cpl. Tim Morando said Tuesday.
The vehicles were on Route 108 and Slippery Rock Road in the Slippery Rock area, West Park Road in Portersville, and the Lake Arthur Estates mobile home park in Muddy Creek Township.
Police suspect three unknown suspects are responsible for the crimes. The thieves are apparently targeting unlocked vehicles at night, Morando said, in highly populated areas such as apartment complexes and trailer parks.
Investigators have surveillance video and hope to release to the public photo images of the suspects.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call police at 724-284-8100. Any victims who have not been identified are also asked to call police.
Morando, meanwhile, reminded residents to lock the doors of their unattended vehicles. Owners should also make sure all their windows and sunroofs are completely closed.
Additionally, he advised residents to remove valuable items from their vehicles or to lock them in the trunk.
