Butler School District Police Force forming

Paul Epps has been named the director of the school's security force.

Six years after the Butler School District installed armed security guards in response to a horrific school shooting, the district's policies are being codified and expanded by state law.

The Butler School Board voted Monday night to ask President Judge Thomas Doerr for a new school security framework for Butler schools. Security officers will become members of the Butler School District Police Force, the school's solicitor Tom King said.

The district also named Paul Epps as the director of the school's security force.

The new changes, King said, are to take advantage of school safety amendments made on the state level with Act 44 of 2018.
