Teen stabs man in the stomach after fight

WORTH TWP — A 15-year-old boy is accused of stabbing a man during a weekend altercation at Cooper's Lake Campground.

The victim, a 47-year-old man, underwent surgery at a Pittsburgh hospital following the incident about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, said police Cpl. Tim Morando. His condition was not available Monday.

State police arrested the boy, from southern Maryland, who apologized for what he did, investigators said.

District Judge Kevin O'Donnell arraigned him early Sunday morning on a felony charge of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.

The boy is charged as an adult but because of his age he is being held in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center in Steubenville, Ohio, on $15,000 bail.

The Butler Eagle is not identifying him due to his age.

Police said by the time troopers got to the campground, the victim, also from Maryland, was being taken to Allegheny General Hospital for a stab wound to the stomach.

Investigators spoke to several witnesses who helped identify the defendant, documents said. They believe the boy stabbed the man with a 3-inch knife.
