Police continue search for two Summit Academy runaways

Two boys remain on the run after they escaped Sunday evening from the Summit Academy reform school in Summit Township.

The detainees — a 16-year-old from Indiana, Pa., and 17-year-old from Philadelphia — jumped out of a first-floor window about 7:30 p.m. and fled on Route 356, said state police Cpl. Tim Morando.

Troopers searched the area for two hours but they could not find the teenagers.

The boys were entered into the National Crime Information Center as runaways.

The incident was the latest escape from the facility, which is a private, residential program for boys and young men ages 14 to 19 who have committed juvenile and adult criminal offenses.

On June 18, three boys from Philadelphia, 16 and 17 years old, fled in an academy-owned, black Chevrolet Equinox. They remain at large.

A month later, three boys, ages 15 and 16, from Philadelphia, Delaware County and the state of Delaware, broke out July 27 after one of them stole a teacher's car keys and took off in the vehicle.

The trio was caught after they crashed on Route 28 in Harrison Township, Allegheny County.
