JACKSON TWP — A man who died in a traffic accident Friday in the township has been identified.

The accident occurred Friday on Pattison Street Extension in the township. According to township police, Joseph Zajch, 58, of Evans City, was driving his truck toward the city around noon when he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and down a hill into a small stream in the backyard of a residence.

While police have yet to receive the coroners report, police Chief Terry Seilhamer said they suspect Zajch suffered a medical event which ultimately resulted in his death and also caused the crash.

“We suspect it was a medical event,” Seilhamer said.

He said the damage to the truck was “relatively moderate,” which may indicate the impact may not have been sever enough to cause the death.

“The damage to the vehicle wasn't consistent with what we believe would be a fatal accident,” he said.
