Driver ID'd in cycle vs. deer crash

DONEGAL TWP — State police have identified the motorcyclist injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash with a deer of Route 68.

Daniel L. Hilliard, 55, of Butler was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by ambulance following the accident about 4:10 p.m., according to authorities.

Emergency crews described the injuries as non-life-threatening.

Police said Hilliard was traveling west on the 1100 block of Route 68, also known as Chicora Road in Donegal Township, when a deer ran out onto the two-lane road. His Harley-Davidson struck the animal, killing it.

Hilliard, who was not wearing a helmet, slid off the bike, according to a police report. The motorcycle was towed away.

The Chicora Volunteer Fire Department and Chicora Ambulance assisted at the scene.
