Dairy promotion team spoons out free ice cream

Among the team promoting dairy farms in the county are, from left, Butler County Miss U.S. Agriculture Maggie Rasp, county Lil' Dairy Miss Kirra Cress, county Dairy Miss Morgan Teets and National Ayrshire Queen Robin Peters. At right is Butler County Commissioner Kim Geyer, one of those attending a free ice cream sundae event Friday at the county government center.

Smiling and slightly sticky faces abounded at lunchtime Friday at the county government center on West Diamond Street, as members of the county Dairy Promotion Board dished out free ice cream sundaes.

The event saw employees at the center as well as those visiting the building for business partake of the fluffy fare.

Also in attendance and sporting tiaras were county Miss U.S. Agriculture Maggie Rasp; county Lil' Dairy Miss Kirra Cress; county Dairy Miss Morgan Teets; and National Ayrshire Queen Robin Peters.

The Dairy Promotion Team brought 20 gallons of vanilla ice cream made from locally sourced milk, plus chocolate syrup, whipped cream, spoons and lots of napkins.

The event was held in the commissioners' chambers on the first floor.

The team promotes the 28 active dairy farms in the county at various events throughout the year.

Any group can contact the team to get the tiara-sporting dairy proponents to come to their events, which have included reading to children at libraries, talking to groups about osteoporosis, presenting programs on dairy to area senior citizens, and other tasks.
