Tuesday — Calista J. Caughey, 18, of Butler was charged with having marijuana last week following a traffic stop on South Chestnut Street near West Cunningham Street. The teen was a passenger in the car that was stopped about 3:25 p.m. July 11 after a reported littering call.

Officers said they smelled marijuana coming from the car and asked the occupants if they had any contraband. Caughey handed over a baggie containing suspected marijuana, according to court documents.

She is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

9:18 p.m. Wednesday — A girl was hurt when a vehicle driven by Nathan Ellis, 17, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle on Benbrook Road at Greenwood Drive. Camryn Green, 19, of Butler was the other driver.

Ellis’ passenger, Lauren Hilliard, 16, of Butler, suffered a minor burn injury to her leg caused when her air bag deployed. Police cited Ellis for careless driving.

10:52 p.m. Sunday — Gregory A. Stepp, 47, of Butler lost control of his vehicle on Meridian Road near Heather Drive and struck a speed limit sign and utility pole. He was not injured.

Police cited Stepp for careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.

Thursday — Police reported they are investigating last week’s attempted burglary at Sebco Pool at Laura J. Doerr Memorial Park on Hannahstown Road in Jefferson Township.

The attempted break-in happened July 13 or 14. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

8:45 p.m. Wednesday — Two unknown burglars were seen making a getaway on an all-terrain vehicle after breaking into the Country Garden Center on Route 228 east in Clinton Township.

A witness described both suspects as about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 170 pounds. Both had bright helmets on when they got onto the ATV and drove away east on Route 228.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

5:07 p.m. Wednesday — The unknown driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt left the scene of a crash in Fairview Township. The wreck happened when the car traveling south on Slippery Rock Road struck an embankment on the east side of the road.

Police said the driver was gone when they found the crash. The car was later towed,

Tuesday — An unknown thief stole about 10 tons of gravel from a TransCanada-owned natural gas well site on the 700 block of Dinnerbell Road in Jefferson Township. The theft happened between 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday — Someone vandalized a storage unit door on the 500 block of Herman Road in Summit Township. The vandalism occurred between 1 p.m. Sunday and noon Tuesday,

Sunday — An unknown vandal drilled holes into a transfer line owned by EdgeMarc Energy on the 900 block of Maple Furnace Road in Allegheny Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Tuesday — Leonard D. Williams, 43, of Harrisville was charged with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop last month on Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township. He was stopped for having a faulty brake light.

Police said Williams later admitted that he had marijuana in the vehicle, according to court documents. Troopers subsequently seized a satchel containing suspected marijuana and other drug contraband.

The defendant failed field sobriety tests and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports, documents said, confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

Williams is charged with driving under the influence, possession of a small of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, careless driving and a lighting violation.
