Two injured in midday traffic accident

At least two people suffered apparent minor injuries late this morning when state police say the driver of a car ran a red light and struck a sport utility vehicle at Route 8 and Mahood Road in Center Township.

The names of the drivers and a passenger in the car were not immediately available.

Police said the car was traveling north on Route 8 and the SUV was headed west on Mahood Road. The collision happened just before 11:30 a.m. in front of the Unionville fire station.

Unionville volunteer firefighters, who were assisted by the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company, had to cut off the roof of the SUV to reach the driver. She was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. The driver of the car was treated at the scene for unknown injuries.
