Butler County's great daily newspaper

It's one more tax

Been reading in the paper about the new tax or should I say fee the commissions want to enact.

The $5 added to vehicle registration is supposed to gain federal funding for fixing the roads. Yet I have not read anywhere there is a promise or a sure thing this will happen.

It will increase the chance of gaining funds if I buy two lottery tickets, too!

I wonder when the government is going to run its budget as the normal citizen has to, only spending the funds available that they earned. I wish I could write a check without having the money and then have everyone on my block pay for it.

They say it will not increase, but I have heard promises before and then all of the sudden there is an amendment and the fee (tax) goes up. Some say it’s only $5, well you add up all the only $5 fees or other so-called temporary taxes (fees) that have come and you’re paying quite a bit more.

Why don’t the politicians in Harrisburg take a 10 percent pay cut and put that money toward fixing the roads and bridges? After all, most of them are way overpaid anyhow. Especially when you figure in their free health care (I have to pay for mine) the perks for mail, gas, vacations and discretionary funding they have access to. Lower the number of representatives and use the money that would have been spent on their salary to fix the roads. There was a proposal for this but somehow it did not pass.

I for one am tired of paying more and more taxes or fees to fund projects that I feel can be done a different way. I believe they are taking the easy way out and not looking at all the options.
